American Solidarity Party

I submitted my resignation as the Travis County Chair of the American Solidarity Party today. Or, well, I think my term officially ended in May 2024, but we never elected someone to succeed. In either case, I’m moving aside to let someone else who can dedicate real energy be involved.

The American Solidarity Party isn’t perfect, and I don’t agree with all of their platform. There are different elements within, like the Liberation Caucus, with a stronger focus on “economic liberation, racial justice, sustainable ecology, and deliberative democracy” that made a lot of sense to me.

Politics in the United States are in a … very rough place … to say the least. President Trump is claiming a mandate, which is just political nonsense. He won the Electoral College and the popular vote but by 2 million votes. He earned less than 50% of the votes cast.

He’s definitely the President. I’m not refuting that, but the massive changes he is pushing through already in his first week on the claim of a sweeping mandate is, frankly, scary.

This stuff is hard. This stuff is complicated. It requires a surgical approach to ensure we know what we’re doing when we change things involving so much money and so many people. His approach of “f#@k it, release them all” that he took with the January 6th pardons and freezing everything immediately has collateral damage that simply isn’t needed. I’m not even talking about his political stances.

While I hoped I could be some part of change, I’m not a politician. I have responsibilities that come first, and frankly, I’m not willing to put in the effort needed to make any dent, if that is even possible.

If you’re in Travis County and it sounds like something you’re passionate about with the bandwidth to take on, reach out to the State Chair.
