In high school, I left campus to get breakfast, but running late. I was with three other guys. I sped, make some unsafe driving decisions in front of an unmarked sheriff. I made a weak effort to outrun him.

The one time in my life I absolutely without a doubt deserved at least a ticket, I got off scot-free by the police and only had to deal with the principal waiting for me when I got to school.
Where my punishment was being told to not do it again.
I was a good kid. This wasn’t a pattern of anything. Just a kid being stupid who needed a cop and a principal to tell him to don’t be stupid.
And it was treated as such.
Maybe the same reaction if I was black. But maybe not.
