@ChrisWiegman I can only speak for the ones I’ve led as a manager. Before it, I say that I’m bringing in HR to help. First call with HR+me+team member stated the PIP can end with reaching all of the goals and continue with employment. If you obviously are short, it would mean leaving a8c.

@ChrisWiegman If you are close, it can be extended a week or two if we think that could make a difference. Granted, this has evolved a lot over the years. A lot more defined than a few back when we had drinks together about it that one time.
@ChrisWiegman At that first call, after explaining everything, the question literally asked “Hearing all of this, do you want to be at Automattic knowing the process and what we’re expecting to stay?” For the ones I’ve led, answer been yes. I’ve heard others opting out.
@ChrisWiegman Ideally, it is a means to identify what support structures are needed for someone to succeed and determine if that is reasonable to provide OR help someone realize that they don’t want to be here really. I’ve been lucky that the ones I’ve led have been positive experiences.
