Social Notes

Short posts that are often pushed to social media (a.k.a. tweets).

  • I updated an older post that I enjoyed writing quite a bit — the history of the IH-35 and 51st Street intersection in Austin. I wrote it when they proposed a roundabout, so I updated it with what they built and the planned work with the IH-35 reconstruction in Central Austin. #atxtraffic #highways The History…

  • Banks are interesting these days. I went to the closest credit union branch to my house—we wanted to get three $50 bills for gifts. No can do. That requires a teller and that branch only has ATMs, which does have multiple units of currency, but not $50 bills. #fintech #banks

  • I adopted FC Bayern as “my team” when cheering on international soccer. Figure a German team made sense (DNA says I’m 97% German) and felt better than randomly adopting Barcelona or Madrid or whatnot.

  • This is an interesting read from the LA Times on the origin of the car-first approach to traffic laws. Where would we be if that ordinance was never enacted? https://apple.news/AW2PslFg9Tgyoq7PQ4I7Itw #traffic

  • I need to rebuild this server. Ubuntu upgrades either perfectly or like a derailed freight train.

  • Well, today sucked. Notre Dame was knocking on the door for a comeback, but they had basically ceded the game from their second drive onward. And it’s going to be a long four years.
