I got an invite to my 4th Degree @KofC Assembly Christmas Party. I can appreciate the conversation about Free Exercise vs COVID restrictions, etc, but having a Christmas party this year?

    After getting an invite for an event in Laredo—complete with flight suggestions and hotel block details. And info about the mixer the evening before.

    I’m a member of @KofC because I resonate with their founder, Bl. McGivney’s vision to setup a support network for Catholic men, namely for their families if they died (being the son of a man who died when I was 12).

    But this kind of stuff? Right now? Seriously?

    Not talking about Mass. Not talking about prayer services. Not talking about even volunteerism activities. But parties? Statewide gathering with a mixer?

    I’m totally dumbstruck.

    Aside: We’ve not attended Mass during the pandemic and our parish hosting the Christmas party gives me no faith in attending anytime in the near term.

    Even if Mass protocols are sufficient, I can’t trust execution if the parish is hosting Christmas parties, tbh.
