@BumpyNUX @richardmtl As with any infrastructure project, there is a particular need to ensure the impact is justly considered. While many projects negatively impact poor communities, they don’t have to.

@BumpyNUX @richardmtl An example: initially Austin’s new soccer team owner wanted the city to provide land for it. They wanted a few park options, which would kick out legit community uses (little league option 1, adult softball fields opt 2).
Both would have impacted poorer people to serve MLS.
@BumpyNUX @richardmtl The city ended up offering them a superfund site—land previously a chemical processing site in an industrial area (being gentrified by breweries). City able to turn unsellable land into a benefit that would support new businesses filling the underused industrial space.
@BumpyNUX @richardmtl If that’s why Austin’s new MLS stadium seems to be in a weird spot. It is, intentionally. Will be adding a stop on the freight line-turned-commuter train line very soon.
