Olivia and I like going to the grocery store together. We have a little ritual. We get up and get ready. She drinks her milk and I slam my head into the wall a few times to wake up. We load up into the car and head to HEB. We’re usually there near 7 a.m.
Since I’ve already been up for awhile and the slamming-your-head-into-the-wall trick only works so well, our first stop is the coffee stand followed by produce. I need my coffee and Olivia needs her banana.
I’m a sucker for gimmicks. Frequent flyer miles. Games that are based on increasing level. Checking in on location-based sites to get badges or pins or whatnot. All in all, it’s a waste of time, but it brings some order to my world.
HEB has a promotion where when you buy six cups of coffee, your seventh is free. The day I save $1.42 and get my free coffee will be a great and glorious day. There’s only one small problem. You actually need to have the card with you when you purchase or it doesn’t count.
Why HEB? Why?! Today’s grocery adventure was fine and Olivia was great. The coffee just didn’t go down as well.
