This is the day the Lord has made- let us rejoice and be glad.
I’m waiting for Pope John Paul’s Urbi et Orbi message as I get ready for bed so I thought I would spend the wait writing a short message.
Holy Saturday was a good day. I went over to Marion’s for lunch and stayed there most of the day. The Vigil at the UCC was beautiful. The Easter Vigil holds a special place in my heart for a couple of reasons. This is the Mass where the new fire is let representing the light of Christ, our three-day look at the climax of our salvation history- the Triduum- is coming to it’s fullness. In short, it’s just one of those “can’t miss it” Masses.
Secondly, this is the night when all the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) candidates are baptized, welcome to the Catholic Faith, confirmed and receive the Eucharist for the first time. As someone who entered the Church six years ago today during the Easter Vigil, it reminds me of my own personal salvation history. I just like having my anniversary of being Catholic being on Easter. The next time it’s close is April 11, 2009 when it falls directly on Holy Saturday once again. Not to mention, I just realized it falls on Marion’s birthday.
Happy 21st Birthday Marion. Congratulations George on becoming Catholic. Blessed Easter to you all.
