@anonrc @DadOrientem Sure! They do typically have families (except for transitional deacons who are in priestly formation), but diaconal work is volunteer. For example, the deacon at the church I used to work was employed by the state university and did ministry work as a volunteer nights/weekends.

@anonrc @DadOrientem You can sometimes see situations where a deacon is employed by a church but not for his deacon work per se. The business manager might be a deacon but he is being paid for being the business manager, not for being a deacon if that makes sense.
