I buried the lead. Toni Stone was the first woman to play in the Negro Leagues. Today’s announcement that @MLB has ruled that the Negro Leagues were major leagues should mean Toni was the first woman major league ballplayer.

    Aside: Assuming there isn’t some loophole that MLB applies, it rights a long overdue wrong to both the Negro Leagues and Toni Stone (and the women that followed her). I do feel conflicted, though, about the first hired-to-be-a-MLB-female player not getting full props.
