I don’t think whatever document that the bishops are crafting will actually mean anything day-to-day except to be used as fodder for this type of discord.

    As a teen in youth group, it was a constant refrain how being Catholic is counter-cultural.

    As adults, we should remember that.

    As a Catholic, if I find myself agreeing too much with any major secular organization, I pause.

    Am I getting sucked into a secular philosophy of life that I put a Catholic overlay on top of or am I authentically living my faith while intersecting with the broader world?

    I think bishops, priests, and a lot of Catholic adults struggle with this and many don’t realize it.
