@beerbabe @mklinger421 The separate instances allow each one to decide policy. Like, actually, Truth Social is one but they don’t allow “federation” (where other instances can interact with it). Your instance mods can also do things like ban other instances outright that are bad actors.

@beerbabe @mklinger421 And, like, the NY Times could make an instance of only their reporters so you know if you follow someone there, they are legit.
It’s kinda like email that anyone can talk between servers but Google handles moderation of Gmail, Microsoft for Hotmail, you for your own server, etc
