Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Churchman of the Year

Rocco, the man who can find out anything about anything within the Catholic Church has named his Churchman of the Year for 2007: His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston.

The story, very detailed with a word count just under 6,000, shares with all what I’ve been hearing from my friends in the Galveston-Houston area—this guy is awesome.

While I’ve only met the Cardinal once, with him climbing into the minivan I was in, I’ll be seeing him again on November 1, 2008 when he celebrates with us the 100th Anniversary of Catholic Campus Ministry at UT, assuming the new meetings he’ll be requested to make as a cardinal don’t conflict.

Personally, I wonder where Bishop Gregory Aymond of Austin will end up. He might not be Cardinal DiNardo, but he’s a solid person as well. Who knows, Archbishop Hughes of New Orleans just turned 75 in early December…
