I’ve been on a quest for over 20 years now (what‽) to eat a hot dog in every state.
I visited DC in 2006, when I scored a DC hotdog at Ben’s Chili Bowl. When flying out of IAD (in Virginia), one sports bar sold hot dogs, so I was set. Except they ran out of hot dogs for the day already. Sad day.
I’m in DC for the first time since then and we flew into BWI (in Maryland).
I did a quick bit of research. Bad news first—we were flying out to head home on a Friday during Lent, so that’s not a hot dog day. Good news, there was a place that sold hot dogs that I could grab after arriving!
Flying Dog Tap House to the rescue!

Upon arriving, we venture over to check Maryland off the list, only to be told that they don’t sell hot dogs. The website is wrong. The Internet gives me menus from a couple years back with hot dogs, but the current one is dogless.
I should have checked the menu in advance. I thought “Flying Dog” referenced hot dogs and flying (ya know, it’s at an airport), but it’s really an unrelated brewery.
Maybe next time.
