As some of you may know, a couple of friends of mine, who just happen to be a couple, are having a baby. Andrea and Charlie decided to name their upcoming baby girl Felicity Ann. Andrea mentions in her latest post the background and reasoning for the name. St. Felicity being a martyr of Rome who died under the teeth of leopards and the sharp objects of men and St. Ann, mother of the Blessed Virgin.

I like this. When talking to people about what they are to name their unborn child, the mention a name “because it sounds good.” I like Andrea and Charlie’s approach- really knowing the meaning of the name they wish to call their child and shortly thereafter, the name with they are to baptize her.
It is also interesting the timing of all of this. Last Sunday, I was in Austin. I attended a Traditional Latin Mass at the St. Joseph Latin Mass Community. The Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus was celebrated with the homlist, Fr. Robert Bradley, S.J., giving this great homily about “what’s in a name?” I could not even paraphrase the homily and still give it any justice.
Anyhow, that’s just something to think about when naming a child. What really is this name that you are going to give this child?
