Social Notes

Short posts that are often pushed to social media (a.k.a. tweets).

  • The park by our house will randomly host fireworks shows. I don’t know why. And, I’m really impressed with the quality of the Pixel 7 Pro camera capturing this.

  • @mfjlewis @tonyannett Yeah, it’s… interesting. But, in terms of a normative way to confirm something is recognized, it’s the closest thing I know of. The data should be free (probably could still make enough money from hardcopies or withholding contact info?).

  • @mfjlewis @tonyannett I think the most official way, for the US, is if they are listed in the Kennedy directory. It’s what the USCCB gives the IRS to determine who falls under the blanket inclusion for 501c3 status under the Catholic Church.

  • @dsaorthocaucus Yeah, I think that one is really silly. I get saying something like “from now on, this way is the way and that variation is not allowed” but the retroactive look back? Come on.

  • @dsaorthocaucus @erinbernard Oh, I’m with both of y’all. Until First Communion (at least with the US Catholicism form where it occurs around 8 years old), I wouldn’t even suggest it and trying to fight a little kid to do it, nah. Also, granted, we’re not part of a community where veiling is a norm.

  • @erinbernard @dsaorthocaucus I’ve given my girls a veil at the First Communion and asked them if they want to wear it a couple times. I think one did once. That’s fine. Kinda like a Sick Call candle-I appreciate the tradition even if it doesn’t fit the current expression.
