  • @IreneBa54495780 @tonyannett I’m not sure how one would prove they are “in no way better” than for-profit institutions. I mean, we can compare Harvard to Walden University.

  • @IreneBa54495780 @tonyannett Gotcha. Yeah, that’s correct. But the solution to bad practices with non-profits doesn’t mean for-profit educational institutions are desirable. Labor practices aren’t any better at for-profits and, again, their stated goal is to make money.

  • @IreneBa54495780 @tonyannett That’s a different conversation. Even with the potential issues with some non-profits, educational institutions shouldn’t be *trying* to make money.

  • @IreneBa54495780 @tonyannett Public charity, in the 501c3, means as opposed to private foundations. Like a foundation one family set up to put money they want to use for charitable purposes is handled differently than an entity whose financing comes from a broad (e.g. public) base.

  • @tweet_at_DLH @tonyannett Success Academy is a non-profit charter school. Non-profit doesn’t mean only public schools.

  • @IreneBa54495780 @tonyannett Non-profit doesn’t equal public charity by definition. A cash-rich school, say Harvard, doesn’t have any shareholders or owners. Any profit it makes has to go back into the institution (or charitable work). That’s a totally different thing than owners able to pocket profits.
