Gov. Abbott set the special election to fill Houston’s House seat for November. He sat on the order to hold a general election. The election is to take place on the next uniform election date (e.g. May or November) on the 36th day or later when the order for an election is given. Rep. Turner died on March 5th.

If he called the election anytime between March 5th and March 28th, it would be held on May 3rd. Since he waited, November 4th.

According to TAC 201.051, “the election shall be ordered as soon as practicable after the vacancy occurs.”
