  • I love the scary message from the State.

“In the guidance released Tuesday evening, the education agency said students, teachers or school districts participating in ‘inappropriate political activism’ could face the following consequences: […] Students being marked absent and districts losing state funding.” (source)

My brothers and sisters, big scary liberal Austin ISD done already marked kids as an unexcused absence if they walked out.

  • Not Safety but Pastoral Concern

We ended up rescheduling our pledge retreat for this weekend. While weather would not have been an issue, we realized that we had guys with families in town and some other concerns existed. • Rita is Approaching

Although Austin is 150 miles away from the coast, we’re still watching this storm and preparing in case it hits us. (Remember, Jackson, MS lost power for 10 days and just as far inland). Yesterday, I announced that the Lambda pledge retreat could be cancelled and rescheduled if severe weather made it to Austin. As…

This story is a couple of weeks old but with the amount of time I spend on the phone, it’s good news to my ears. A study out of the UK regarding cell phone usage for 10 years finds that it does not increase the risk of tumors. While I’m a big fan of studies…

  • notre dame’s latest television spot

During Saturday’s game, this spot was aired for the University of Notre Dame (like I mentioned in the OSU/UT Katrina relief post, universities are given airtime during televised sporting events). The online stream gave me some problems but in short, the 60-second spot watches as a young lady- we’re unsure at this point if she’s…

  • if the romans had pop radio

If the Romans had pop radio, Catullus would be playing on it. This observation was made today after we translated a prose adaptation of Catullus 8. (N.B. I’m in LAT 506 which is the lowest-level taught at UT so it’s nothing groundbreaking…) Puella mea mē nōn amat. Valē, puella! Catullus obdūrat: poēta puellam nōn amat,…
