I’ve been using Evernote for about 16 years as a paying customer. In a month, they’re increasing my price from $83.13 last year to $250.

I think it’s time for me to jump ship. I mainly use it to store scans of paper things I want to keep (I did like their OCR functionality). What are y’all using these days?

    @kraft I did an export to Evernote and then lost my export. Time to do it again.

    And agreed: at its peak at least, Evernote OCR was unbeatable!

    @kraft

    Obsidian! It's free, or you can pay for their cloud sync.

    @kraft Wow, what a jump. I've been using a folder of files strategy where I'm able to use both Obsidian and iA Writer, but I don't use it for keeping scans, although I do need something for that.

    I previously used DEVONthink for this, but I found it a bit overwhelming for my taste. https://www.devontechnologies.com/apps/devonthink

    @kraft Hmmm. I use obsidian + iCloud for sync, but I'm not sure how it would behave for a large number of scanned images. Might not be the right fit for that use case. I largely use it for markdown files.

      It seems to let me import them well enough. The view looks just like Evernote (embeds into a note). I’d lose the OCR so that is something to figure out.

        @kraft There might be a community plugin for ocr

    @kraft @Catelli I left Evernote ages ago so not sure what the current app does. I love @obsidian though

    @kraft It's not 1-to-1, but Zotero wound up being my Evernote replacement.

    @kraft I've never used it, but some people really like https://docs.paperless-ngx.com/ for OCR and document management.

    @kraft I've never been an Evernote user, but loving Obsidian (found as best the alternative for me as a longtime OneNote user) – worth checking out if you're not familiar. @chris

      @Myphatself @kraft +1 for https://docs.paperless-ngx.com especially when your use case is scan archive

    @kraft if you can self-host, Paperless NGX is fantastic. https://docs.paperless-ngx.com/
